Today is a very important day for The Lullaby Trust and for us their supporters.
The latest figures for Sudden Infant Deaths (SIDS) are released today by the Office of National Statistics and whilst it shows a drop in the number of deaths it's not a significant enough drop.
The number has fallen by 17 and whilst it is a reduction it means 5 babies per week are still dying without a known cause. Since 2000 the rate at which SIDS is reducing has slowed so over 300 babies per year are dying which leaves us with one of the highest SIDS rates in Europe.
It is all the more important to keep spreading the word about Sudden Infant Death this is not going away and it's up to bereaved parents and fundraisers like me to fight this battle alongside The Lullaby Trust.
There are too many families out there suffering a loss and it's why fundraising is so important to me, it's why I can't just sit back and do nothing. It's about research, it's about spreading the Safer Sleep message, it's about not giving up!
So whilst I know there may be a few disappointed faces that the statistics were still so high at least they are moving in the right direction, we have to keep positive that the battle we are fighting is being won slowly.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
